Due to a spontaneous union action at a subcontractor of public transport company De Lijn, there has been disruption in the region around Antwerp since Monday morning. Eight lines remain affected during the evening rush hour, De Lijn reports. Everything should return to normal on Tuesday.

Specifically, the following lines are affected: 32 (Edegem – Rooseveltplaats), 36 (Vuylstekelaan – IGLO), 51 (Berchem Station – Hove – Vremde), 140 (Hoboken Polderstad – UZA – Mortsel – Wijnegem) and 141 (Hoboken – Wilrijk – UZA – Mortsel – Wijnegem). In addition, lines 445 (Brasschaat – Gooreind – Kalmthout), 447 (Essen Hoek – Horendonk – Wuustwezel) and 610 (Antwerp – Oelegem) are affected.

De Lijn asks passengers to use the route planner on the website or the app to plan their alternative route. “There are certainly alternatives, although it remains annoying of course,” it sounds. De Lijn apologized for the inconvenience on Monday morning, especially considering the timing on September 2, the first day of school in Dutch-language education.

In total, about 25 percent of De Lijn buses are driven by drivers who work for a subcontractor. The reason for the strike is a protest against the current timetable of the drivers.
