Two years after Lisa and her BLACKPINK bandmates rocked the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, the group’s youngest member returned to take over the VMAs again. This time, it wasn’t just about representing BLACKPINK but about cementing her solo career as she won the Best K-Pop award for the second time.

From her first steps into New York’s UBS Arena, Lisa’s arrival at the 2024 MTV VMAs made a statement as she graced the red carpet in a custom embroidered Mugler corset gown from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection by the brand’s creative director, Casey Cadwallader.

Inside the VMAs, Lisa first took to the stage for a fiery performance of her latest solo hits, “New Woman” and “Rockstar.” Decked out in a bold red-leather outfit, the Thai superstar wowed the crowd (including apparent fan TikTok star Addison Rae, who sang along to “Rockstar,” according to audience camera footage) to deliver her first new songs since launching her LLOUD record label and signing with RCA Records.

But Lisa’s most significant moment of the night arguably came when she returned to the stage to accept the coveted Best K-Pop award for “Rockstar.” Presented by MTV legend and original TRL host Carson Daly, the award celebrated her impact breaking out as her own artist, particularly as she faced stiff competition from Jung Kook of BTS’ “Seven” featuring Latto, NCT Dream’s “Smoothie,” Tomorrow X Together’s “Deja Vu,” Stray Kids’ “LALALA,” and NewJeans’ “Super Shy.”

In her signature shy but smiley self, Lisa gave thanks for the award in English and even added some Thai into her speech.

“‘Rockstar was a meaningful comeback for me after ‘Lalisa’ so this is very, very special to me,” she told the cheering arena. “Thank you to RCA family and Team LLOUD and BLINKs and Lilies all around the world,” referring to BLACKPINK fans as well as the nickname to the fans of Lisa herself.

While she had already broken new ground when winning Best K-Pop in 2022 to become the first female and first soloist to do so, Lisa made history once again by becoming the second artist ever to win the Best K-Pop category more than once. The 27-year-old remains the only female and solo artist to do so.

Lisa’s 2024 victory further solidifies her as a global force, pushing boundaries in both K-pop and pop music at large.
