Athletes competing for medals in these sports received incentives from the Government of Minas Gerais

Minas Gerais athletes are already in the Paralympics pools this Thursday (29/8), in Paris. The Government of Minas Gerais participated in the incentive to win medals in this modality.

From the Minas Gerais delegation, ten swimmers who will compete for the best marks in the competition, and two coaches, are covered by the Bolsa Atleta and Bolsa Técnico de Minas programs, public policies of the State Secretariat for Social Development (Sedese).

The swimming squad, made up of athletes Gabriel Geraldo dos Santos Araújo (Gabrielzinho), João Pedro Brutos, Laila Suzigan, Ana Karolina Soares de Oliveira, Arthur Xavier Ribeiro, Patricia Pereira dos Santos, Alan Kleber Basilio, Wendell Belarmino Pereira, Gabriel Melone de Oliveira, Ruan Felipe Lima de Souza, is led by coaches Fábio da Silva Bordignon and Alexandre Vieira.

They are Praia athletes and prepared for the Paris 2024 games at the Club’s facilities in Uberlândia and at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF)

In addition to Paralympic swimming, Paralympic boccia is also bringing together fans for its debut today. Matheus Carvalho from Minas Gerais, who is also covered by the Bolsa Atleta program, has a good track record for the games, having won the gold medal in the individual event and the bronze medal in the pairs event at the 2023 Santiago Parapan American Games.

Athlete Scholarship and Technical Scholarship

To subsidize and encourage the practice of sports by athletes in the state, the Government of Minas Gerais, through Sedese, offers services such as the Bolsa Atleta and Bolsa Técnico, which financially support athletes and coaches who practice high-performance sports, primarily in Olympic, Paralympic and, secondarily, non-Olympic modalities.

The incentive is used to cover part of the personal expenses for competition registrations, travel, accommodation and food for sporting events; transportation, purchase of sports materials and equipment for training athletes, as well as training courses for coaches.

Government of Minas Gerais and parasports

Also implemented by the Sports Sub-Secretariat, the Parasports Promotion Centers Program aims to increase the participation of people with disabilities in public sports policies, contributing to the process of inclusion and autonomy of the target audience, and the emergence of parasports talents.

Sedese also offers ICMS Esportivo, a mechanism that encourages the organization and implementation of public sports policies in municipalities, by promoting the creation and maintenance of municipal sports councils and the implementation of sports programs and projects.

Inclusive games

The Minas Gerais Parasports Games (JimiP) is another public sports policy. It takes place annually and is aimed at para-athletes from civil society, not just of school age, and includes various sports.

With the Sports Incentive Law, it is possible for the Government of Minas Gerais to reserve part of the revenue from the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services, known as Current ICMS, so that contributing companies can support the projects.

The service aims to promote the practice and development of sports, providing improvements in the health and quality of life of the population, social integration and inclusion, the formation of values, the improvement of athletes and the promotion of research.

Encouraged by the law, projects by the Uberlândia Sports Club for the Disabled, Praia Clube and the Sports Training Center (CTE) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) also stand out. The initiatives also encouraged Minas Gerais athletes in the Paralympics.
