The medal count opened on Friday for the Belgian delegation at the Paris Paralympic Games. Maxime Carabin won gold in the 400m in the T52 class in the para-athletics events while Ewout Vromant had won silver in the para-cycling track event earlier in the afternoon.

Having already set a new Olympic record in the morning series (54.48), Liège’s Maxime Carabin, 23, dominated the event in 55.10 to become Paralympic champion.

Earlier in the day, Ewoud Vromant, 40, had reached the final of the individual pursuit at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome where he was beaten by Frenchman Alexandre Léauté in the C2 class. The Flemish rider took silver.

The day was also marked by Tatyana Lebrun’s 5th place in the final. The young swimmer from Saint-Vith, 19, clocked a time of 1:18.39 to place her in the top 5 of the 100m breaststroke in the SB9 class for her two Paralympic Games. She had finished 11th in Tokyo.

Francis Rombouts, 40, will play a play-off against Indonesian Muhammad Bintang Herlangga on Saturday morning to try to reach the quarter-finals of the boccia event. The Antwerp player may have lost his third group match (11-0) against Thailand’s Worawut Saengampa on Friday, but he continues his Parisian journey.

The adventure also continues for Piotr Montagu who qualifies for the 8th finals of the compound bow event in archery.

The doubles journey of table tennis players Laurens Devos and Marc Ledoux ended in the quarter-finals (MD18).

Man-Kei To hopes that her journey will continue in badminton. After a victory against the Austrian Henriett Koosz 2 sets to 0 (21-7, 21-6), she will play her second group match against the South Korean Hyunah Kwon on Saturday morning (10:30).
