Lopes not on Europa League list, Veretout present

OL: Lopes not on the list for the Europa League, Veretout very present

The downgrade continues for Anthony Lopes. Pushed towards the exit for many weeks by his management, the ex-captain is not part of the list of players communicated by OL to UEFA to play in the Europa League this season. Dejan Lovren and Paul Akouokou, other undesirables, were also not selected. In other words, the message is clear for these three elements: Lyon is absolutely not counting on them. Neither for the championship, nor for Europe.

Although he is under contract until 2025, Lopes has lost his number 1 spot to Brazilian Lucas Perri, and he was not even called up by Pierre Sage for the last league match against Strasbourg (4-3). This summer, OL chose former Nantes player Rémy Descamps to be Perri’s understudy. Lovren and Akouokou, under contract until 2025 and 2027, also did not find a place to land during the transfer window.

OL with its recruits

In its list A of 25 players communicated to UEFA for the Europa League, Lyon has however registered its summer recruits: Moussa Niakhaté, Georges Mikautadze, Abner, Tanner Tessmann, Wilfried Zaha, Warmed Omari and Jordan Veretout, recently recruited from OM. As for Rayan Cherki, he can still be registered on list B.

UEFA regulations provide that any player “may be included in List B if he was born on or after 1 January 2003 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for an uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday at the time of his registration with UEFA or for a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club of the same association for a period not exceeding one year”.

“Players aged 16 can be included if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption,” the body specifies. For its return to Europe, OL will challenge Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympiacos, Ludogorets, Besiktas, Rangers, Fenerbahçe, Qarabag and Hoffenheim in the league phase.
