Should Lilian Brassier have been sent off for his very dangerous move on Mohamed-Ali Cho?

Lilian Brassier can thank Benoît Millot for his clemency. Without it, the former Brest player would have left the Vélodrome pitch in the 18th minute of OM-Nice, this Saturday, September 14.

After an aerial duel between Cornelius and Guessand, the ball heads towards Lilian Brassier. The defender raises his left leg to control it but Mohamed-Ali Cho is the quickest. As the Nice striker heads the ball, he is hit in the face by Lilian Brassier’s foot.

The gesture was involuntary. The Marseille defender did not see his opponent coming from behind him. But it could have resulted in an injury to Mohamed Ali-Cho. Immediately after the contact, the French international hopeful held his face with one hand, hitting the pitch with the other to externalize his pain.

A feverish start to the season

Benoît Millot was quick to warn Lilian Brassier. An insufficient sanction in the eyes of Nice’s Youssouf Ndayishimiye, who did not hesitate to let the referee know.

This defensive gesture missed by the ex-Brest player reflects his nervousness since his arrival on Olympian soil. Imperial in Finistère last year, a key element in Brest’s historic season, he is currently struggling to confirm the potential seen in him by OM’s leaders.

If the Marseille club wants to nurture ambitions of the Champions League, or even the title, Robert De Zerbi will have to find the right formula in defense. Leonardo Balerdi is essential, but at this stage no one is unanimously on his side.
