OM players will sport a very retro look on Saturday when they host Nice on Matchday 4 of Ligue 1 (5 p.m.). The club unveiled an anniversary jersey this Friday to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the club, founded in 1899, which will be worn on Saturday instead of their usual tunic. This jersey, all white and with a collar, is largely inspired by the one worn when the club was founded. Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli will be dressed all in black.

Available for sale from midnight this Friday
The sponsors (Puma, CMA-CGM) will be displayed in white to highlight the immaculate side of the jersey. “This polo-style collar was chosen to represent the presence of the era on the pitch and to recall the sports shirts of the 1899s,” states the press release from the club and Puma. “To pay tribute to the history of the club and what it represents in the eyes of all its supporters, this jersey marks the return of the first logo, that of 1899 and 1935, the one that is synonymous with a birth, of René Dufaure de Montmirail, of the ‘Straight to the Goal’. 1899, the anniversary date of the club, is affixed to the back of the sleeves, giving supporters the opportunity to wear it proudly.”
For the occasion, the club’s logo will regain its former character. The inside of the jersey will bear the inscription “125 years of Olympian fervour”. “This same stamp that will transform the initials of the founder, then DM (Dufaure de Montmirail), to become OM”, continues the press release which promises to distribute this historic jersey “very widely internationally”.
It will be available for sale to the public from midnight on the night of Friday to Saturday, on the club’s website, and Saturday morning from 9am in the official OM stores. After a rather convincing start to the season (2nd with 7 points) and the club’s anniversary, the atmosphere promises to be great on Saturday at the Vélodrome.
