A real whirlwind. Cristiano Ronaldo’s new YouTube channel is becoming a global phenomenon. Three weeks after its launch on August 21, it has met with quite incredible success. Officially presented under the name “UR.Cristiano” (with the identifier @Cristiano), the Portuguese striker’s account has registered 60.2 million subscribers in twenty-two days of existence. Enough to make it one of the most popular channels in the world on the platform.

For comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo already has more followers on YouTube than most major music stars. The 39-year-old striker, who plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, is now ahead of Taylor Swift (59.9 million), Ed Sheeran (55.1), Ariana Grande (54.6), Billie Eilish (52.8), Bad Bunny (48.1), Shakira (46.7), Katy Perry (45.3), Rihanna (43.6) and Beyoncé (27.3). With Justin Bieber (73.5), Eminem (61.8) and the South Korean groups Black Pink (94.7) and BTS (75.7) in his sights.

Ronaldo wants to dethrone Mr Beast

Driven by huge enthusiasm, CR7’s channel reached a million subscribers in just one hour and thirty minutes when it was launched. In less than twenty-four hours, it had more than 20 million followers… Unprecedented. Currently, thirty-seven videos are available on the account of the former Real Madrid and Manchester United leader. They have accumulated 440 million views, via fairly short content in which the five-time Ballon d’Or winner highlights his personality and his family, alongside his wife Georgina Rodriguez or his son Cristiano Jr.

Despite his great start, Cristiano Ronaldo is still a long way from the most followed accounts on YouTube, all domains combined. The American videographer Mr Beast is well ahead of the ranking with 315 million subscribers and dizzying stats (58.5 billion cumulative views since its launch in 2012). The podium is completed by the Indian production company T-Series (273 million) and the children’s channel Cocomelon (182 million). During a press conference on September 2, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is already the most followed personality on Instagram (638 million), did not hide his ambition to also become the number 1 on YouTube. “Mr Beast is the one I have to beat,” said the Portuguese striker, giving himself “two years” to achieve this.
