In the midst of a conflict with OM, the announcement had aroused a great deal of curiosity. Chancel Mbemba (30 years old) had broadcast on X on Wednesday evening a short 15-second video to announce an “exclusive” coming to his YouTube channel on Sunday. Some could have expected a speech on his current situation at OM but this is ultimately not the case. As promised, the defender’s newly created channel shared four videos concerning a documentary on his life, entitled “Mentalité Mbemba”.

Mbemba wants a fifth club

This includes a teaser and three episodes between 32 and 356 minutes from his birth in Kinshasa to his arrival in Europe. The first episode is dedicated to his first steps in the Lemba district of the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo and his determination to make football his profession. The second named “between dreams and disillusionment” concerns his departure for Europe, to Anderlecht in 2011 at 17 years old, and his disappointments encountered, while the third returns to his successes with the captaincy of Congo or his arrival at OM, in particular. During these episodes, he notably mentions the rumors about his supposedly rejuvenated age.

The former FC Porto player joined Marseille in 2022 from the Portuguese club. Forced out by the club this summer, Mbemba has been suspended since August after an incident in training. OM accuses him of behaving badly with a member of the management team close to Pablo Longoria and Mehdi Benatia. But the versions diverge as some witnesses point to the vehement behavior of the manager in question, which OM firmly contradicts. The decision was then taken to exclude Mbemba from the group and to no longer have him wear the colors of OM. A two-week salary deduction was also applied.

He has been the last player in the Marseille loft since then. He could have left at the end of the transfer window after an offer from the Al Shabab club (a salary of 4 million euros per year, plus a signing bonus of 2 million). OM had reached an agreement with the Saudi leaders for a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros. But the deal ultimately fell through due to Mbemba’s higher demands.

In his documentary, the latter concludes by confiding that he is aiming for an adventure in a fifth club after Anderlecht, Newcastle, Porto and Marseille. “The fifth remains,” he says without saying more about his possible future destination. He is under contract until 2025 with Marseille.
