Yesterday, Sunday April 13, 2025, a racing and a solidarity march were organized from the Barachois in Saint-Denis to support the fight against Charcot disease (SLA). This event, accessible to all, made the public aware and made it possible to collect funds for the Arsla association.
Communiqué :
More than 20,000 euros have been collected for the research and financing of equipment for patients! Very good news for the first edition of this event! This event was carried by Arsla and its territorial referent in Reunion, Aziliz Morvan and supported by the Medef Réunion.
Charcot’s disease: a rare disease that deserved our mobilization!
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (SLA), better known as Charcot’s disease, is a neurodegenerative pathology that affects snowmobiles. Every day in France, it takes 5 people while 5 others are diagnosed. Currently, there is no curative treatment.
An inclusive and unifying sporting event
A march of 4 km at 9:30 am: accessible to all, including children, people with reduced mobility (armchairs …)
A timed 10 km race at 9:00 am: for runners looking for performance.
This event was made possible thanks to the commitment of local partners, testifying to the solidarity of Reunion territory. The two master’s degree in the event were Crédit Agricole and the Flamboyants group.
A flight ticket Reunion-Montréal was by Frenchbee on a draw among the participants in Guillaume Blanc! Many other lots have been given to the first 3 women and the first 3 men: a jump to the elastic with Air Jump, one night for 2 people at the Hotel Le Terre-Sainte, one night for 2 at the Creole hotel, cocktail with rooftop, ice kaz menus … Each participant will set off with their T-shirt, and for runners, a medal is waiting for them!
An essential cause: finance research and help with patients
On Reunion Island, a hundred people live with ALS (Charcot’s disease).
The purchase of specialized equipment (eye tablets, wheelchairs, assistance robots …) represents a very high cost, rarely supported. All donations will be fully donated to the Arsla association in order to finance research as well as the creation of a park of equipment adapted to Reunion for patients.
Animations to raise awareness and share
In parallel with sporting events, awareness stands were installed all morning to raise public awareness of Charcot’s disease and advances in research and also to accompany people affected by the disease who will have been able to move.
After the tests, a sharing picnic was organized, offering a friendly moment to the participants, and also allowing patients to fight against isolation because since the death of the former territorial referent, Thierry Joseph, no demonstration has seen the day.
Servair, our partner gave a meal basket to each volunteer.
An extraordinary atmosphere
Beyond the sports events, the participants and the spectators were able to benefit from a great atmosphere. The morning started with a muscle awakening to music animated by Shafik Essack, enough to break the ice!
Several people with Charcot disease have passed the line to arrive with an alley of honor, enough to arouse emotion to everyone.
We were delighted to welcome the mayor, Ericka Bareigts her team, who made a poignant speech, recalling how essential it is to remain united, united, and to continue this kind of actions.
An excellent moment of sharing, which we would be delighted to organize again next year!
