essential According to the latest count, an illegal rave party brings together more than 8,000 teufeurs in the lot, blocking the RD840. Controls, nuisance and local tensions intensify, while participants plan to stay there for a few more days.
Motorists have probably noticed it: it is impossible to travel on the RD840, after Gramat towards Montvalent over a section of about ten kilometers, since Thursday, May 8. Traffic is blocked by a large deployment of the police. Lot gendarmes filter motorists and carry out drug and alcohol screening.
At the origin of all this operation: an immense rave party organized illegally a few kilometers further in the campaign of the department between Montvalent, Alvignac and Rocamadour, right next to the Viroulou base camp. According to the latest encryption of the prefecture, which fell in the evening, more than 8,000 teufeurs from all over France and neighboring countries, gathered in the lot. Much more according to witnesses.
“I have to speak English, Spanish. There are Italians and even Germans,” says a teufer. About 2,000 vehicles were also identified, by the police. “That’s a lot of people in the town. I am very worried about the course,” confirms the mayor of Montvalent, Guihlem Cledel. “I’m fed up, it’s the second time during my mandate, I will file a complaint,” he adds. “At this stage, the objective is to limit the number of people, for the safety of all,” said the Lot prefect, Claire Raulin.
“We arrived last night, and we will leave on Sunday”
Yet the Teufeurs do not intend to raise the camp right away: “We arrived last night, and we will leave on Sunday I think”, says a participant. “We took the stock of beer,” adds another. Difficult to miss them, the “boom boom” of techno music can be heard several kilometers around. And yet, they are not identifiable from the side of the road. You have to take a long winding path, and it is to the sound of music that intensifies, that we know that we are getting closer to the rave party. The passage being cut, there are no more teufeurs by car passing, but others still decide to go there, responsible for their belongings, the time of the prolonged weekend.
On this site, located on the place called “Le Gary”, thousands of vehicles occupy the private land. On the set, vans and cars are parked as far as the eye can see, part of the field acting as a parking lot. Others have directly planted the tent for several days, while music resonates stronger and louder. A monumental scene, decorated with psychedelic decorations, sits in the center of the site. Thousands of teufeurs dance, while others smoke, consume drugs or play cards. Some have granted themselves a short break and manage to rest despite the decibels. The land is not muddy, but the passage of vehicles and the trampling of the teufeurs will leave traces on the fields when they leave, which does not seem to be for immediately, according to their testimonies.
The most important rave party in recent years in the lot
Despite the prefectural decrees to ban this kind of gathering and the transport of equipment, the Rave Party was still held. “The first alerts were communicated to us around 9 pm Wednesday evening, following an illegal musical rally,” said Colonel Bertrand Loddé. “Thirty Lot gendarmes are mobilized. A reinforcement from Montauban’s mobile strength units also intervened,” he added. Other squadrons and cynophile teams are also expected on the scene. In total, more than a hundred members of the police are mobilized. The gendarmerie will intervene at least for four days, according to the colonel, which recalls that many checks are also carried out: “flat-rate fines for cannabis and driving license withdrawals have been distributed,” he said. Sound equipment has also been confiscated, said the prefecture.
“We ask that no one goes to the place and avoids the Montvalent and Rocamadour sector,” said the prefect. “The inhabitants are affected. We work to limit nuisance but also to protect them,” says Claire Raulin.
As a reminder, a Rave Party had already taken place in the sector in 2015 and another in 2021, on the Viroulou website. “This is the most important in recent years,” says the prefect.
