The theme of the Met Gala of this year celebrates the new spring exhibition of the Institute costume, entitled Superfine : Tailoring black Style (from May 10 to October 26). The exhibition explores the importance of clothing and style in the formation of black identities in the diaspora. It is organized from 12 characteristics of the black dandyism, inspired by a test of Zora Neale Hurston 1934, The Characteristics of Negro Expression.
The exhibition was designed by Andrew Boltoncurator, and Monica Millerguest curator and African study professor at the Columbia University Barnard Columbia.
