The level of Lake Bourget will go up during this month of May: we explain why

“Not really consequences for users”

At the level of Chautagne, the split in two: derivation channel in the west and old Rhône in the east. As of May 15, this section will no longer be fueled into clear waters by the dam during the purge operation. The water will only from Lake Bourget, via the Savières Canal. In order for the flow to be sufficient, it is therefore necessary artificially to raise the level of the lake upstream of the process.

This is what the Rhône National Company (CNR) has started to do in recent days, although it goes unnoticed at the moment.

In mid-May, when the lake is at the highest, Its rating will be around 232 meters above its usual summerwhich will situate the water just below the lake promenade located between Rowing beach and Mottets.

“Apart from people who could wonder why the level is higher when it is not raining, this will not really have any consequences on users,” observes Sébastien Cachera, one of the specialists in the inter -community committee for the sanitation of Lac du Bourget (Cisalb). “However, boaters will be back to the moorings of their boats. From May 15 to 27, fishing will also be prohibited in different sectors of the old Rhône.
