The American president assured having had a “very good and productive telephone conversation” with the Turkish leader, who also focused on “Syria, Gaza and more”.

“The president invited me to go to Turkey and, in the same way, he will come to Washington,” added Donald Trump, recalling having had an “excellent” relationship with Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his term (2017-2021).

Turkey, a member of NATO, took part in meetings of the European and British allies supporting the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan has proposed several times to welcome peace negotiations in his country.

The Turkish head of state maintains contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the two leaders, for example, dialogued recently about an agreement on the Black Sea.

Ankara had played a mediation role in 2022 for the conclusion of an agreement allowing the export of Ukrainian cereals by the Black Sea, of which Russia had later slammed the door.
