The Ukrainian forces had attacked by surprise in August 2024 this border territory of Ukraine, grabbing some 1,400 square kilometers. For its part, the Russian army has been leading a large -scale offensive since 2022 in Ukraine, which it occupies almost 20 % of the territory.
After months of fighting, Russia claimed to have completely released the Koursk region in late April. President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that Ukrainian troops were pursuing operations there.
Two employees of an agricultural company were killed Monday morning in a drone attack on a car near the village of Chtchegoliok, wrote Mr. Khinsteïn on Telegram.
A 53 -year -old man died in a similar attack on “a civil car” in the village of Zvannoia, according to the same source.
“The enemy continues to make ignoble strikes against our territory,” said Khinsteïn, calling the inhabitants of his region to “maximum vigilance”.
After months of silence, Russia had recognized in late April that a contingent of North Korean soldiers had taken part in the clashes against the Ukrainian units in the Koursk region.
Russia said it would observe a three-day ceasefire from May 8 to 10, during the commemorations of victory over Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
Ukraine has not clearly said if it intended to follow this truce announced by President Vladimir Putin.
