The young anti -fascist guard is in the viewfinder of the Minister of the Interior. Bruno Retailleau announced that he was initiating the organization’s dissolution procedure before the National Assembly on Tuesday, April 29.
Now, the organization founded in Lyon in 2018 has a fortnight to exhibit its arguments. “Our lawyers are instantly, we have nothing to blame ourselves, we are an organization that fights far-right militias. Justice will decide,” reacts Zine-Eddine Messaoudi, the spokesperson for the young antisfascist guest guest of BFM Lyon this Wednesday, April 30.
A demonstration of strength hoped for this Thursday
The members of the organization and its sympathizers intend to participate this Thursday, May 1 in a rally. In parallel to the legal battle, Zine-Eddine Messaoudi wishes to “claim this day” and “show who belongs to the street”.
It is counting on Popular pressure to bend the government. “We intend to build massive mobilizations because what is happening is not nothing, it is not simply a dissolution, it is a message sent to the whole country”.
An organization with contested methods
Regularly, the extreme right demands the dissolution of the young guard from which members have been involved in affairs of violence.
Eight members of the young anti -fascist guard were indicted on June 27, 2024, suspected of having attacked a month earlier a teenager in the Paris metro “the Trait (Ant) of Zionist and the Fract (Ant) on several occasions”. This assault took place after a conference for supporting Gaza of the Franco-Palestinian activist Rima Hassan.
“This is an instrumentalization what was done in Paris, we are on the front line to fight anti-Semites,” challenges Zine-Eddine Messaoudi on our antenna.
One of the notorious figures of the organization, Raphaël Arnaud, who has since become Vaucluse LFI deputy, has been relieved in the police register identifying potentially dangerous individuals. Bruno Retailleau also filed a complaint against him for his accusations against French police in the death of activists for the independence of New Caledonia.
Last January, the cabinet of the Ministry of the Interior assured had “received several reports from prefects” about the young guard.
A disputed parallelism with the extreme right
Bruno Retailleau announced this Wednesday April 30, the day before the May 1st initiate a procedure for dissolving the Ultra-Droite Popular Ultra-right Group.
For Zine-Eddine Messaoudi, the Minister of the Interior has an equivalence which he deems dangerous.
“We have nothing to have with these people, we practice self-defense against far-right groups that make terror reign. We fight the extreme right in the street and politically. They use political violence against people for what they are, Muslims, Arabas, leftist militants, we only seek to make them go back”, he concludes.
