The bank transfers between two different establishments will be suspended every year during the Easter weekend, from Thursday 6 p.m. until Tuesday April 22 at 2:30 am, the Banque de France at AFP said on Thursday.
The money flows between the banks of the euro zone pass via the Target 2 system, open every day except weekends and a handful of days in the year: January 1, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May 1 and December 25 and 26.
In Luxembourg, the banks are affected by Good Friday and Easter Monday. The BGL BNP Paribas indicates, for example, a closure of its agencies from Friday to Monday included. And, on its website, the bank recommended that its customers make the electronic transfers before April 17 at 3 p.m. and put the transfers on paper before 8:00 am on April 16.
The alternative of course consists in using the instant transfer, proposed by most banking establishments in the Grand Duchy.
No delay in the payment of wages in 2025
“The closure of Target 2 for four days on Easter weekend is well planned in the annual calendar of our Target 2 payment system which has been the same since 2008”, the launch year of this system, said the Banque de France.
The instant transfer services “remain operational”, specifies the French banking federation (FBF), as well as so -called “internal” transfers, within the same bank.
The Easter closure took place last year at the end of the month, which had been able to cause delays in the payment of wages. This is not the case in 2025.
