L‘incident occurred in the street on March 27, during Ramadan. The 21 -year -old student was arrested by police after the assault. The teacher, named Hajar, was hospitalized at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez and unfortunately lost her life this Sunday after a little more than two weeks of struggle.
The video of the attack, widely broadcast on social networks, caused a strong emotion both at the local level and at the national level. The suspect is currently in pre -trial detention, pending the results of the investigation which will determine the reasons for his criminal gesture.
Protest and teacher strike
In response to this tragic incident, several teaching unions expressed their indignation and dissatisfaction with the climbing of physical and verbal attacks, in the absence of all protection. They called for the organization of forms of protest.
For example, the Regional Office of the National Education Federation (FNE, Democratic Tendance) in Drâa-Tafilalet announced rallies during the breaks of the morning and evening of Monday and Tuesday, as well as a regional strike on Wednesday April 16, to denounce the school violence which cost the young teacher.
She warned against the spread of school violence, which has become a scourge that eats away at public education in the absence of alternative means to cope with it, and the political will of the state to restore the coat of arms of educational staff.
For its part, the coordination of contract teachers held the state entirely responsible for the deplorable situation of the Moroccan school, announcing a national mourning of three days. Teachers will wear black armbands throughout the week.
