DTO – In a context of extreme weather conditions with intense heat and prolonged drought, the risk of forest fires in Tram Chim National Park (Tam Nong District) is at a high alert level. In order to react proactively and minimize the damage caused by forest fires, the Tram Chim National Park Management Council has synchronously deployed many technical solutions, organized a permanent force 24/7, combined with propaganda, patrols, water regulation … to protect the safety of the endemic – The “green lung” of the region of Dong Thap Muoi.

With a forest area of more than 7,310 hectares, including more than 2,500 hectares of Cajeput forest and dense vegetation, Tram Chim National Park clearly understands the importance of proactively implementing drastic and synchronous solutions to prevent and fight forest fires, thus protecting the precious “green lung” of the Dong Thap Muoi region.
These days, in all key subzones such as A1, A3, A4 and A5 of the Tram Chim National Park, the specialized force for forest protection and prevention and fighting for forest fires (PCCC) in coordination with the Tam Nong-Tan Hong Interdistrict Forestry Protection Department and the Provincial Protection Protection Department work hard to carry out their tasks. Forest guards cut the fire cuts and actively burn the grass to create a seat belt and prevent the risk of fire spread in the event of an accident.
At the same time, the prevention of illegal entrances to the Fishing National Park, honey collection … which can cause fires is promoted by many forms, from the distribution of leaflets, the hanging of banners to direct propaganda in the residential areas of the buffer zone.
In order to be proactive in the prevention and control of forest fires during the dry season, the management board of Tram Chim National Park has deployed fire -fighting machines specializing in high -risk areas and pumped water in the channels and ditches to maintain water levels and increase humidity of forest vegetation.

The water level is low in many areas and the dryness of vegetation is a significant potential risk. Another important measure implemented by Tram Chim National Park is strict management of flammable materials and the use of fire in the area. More specifically, in the A4 and A1 subdivisions of Tram Chim National Park, a controlled burning was made on 432 hectares of thick vegetation in order to minimize potential combustible materials. The combustion process is carried out according to strict procedures, guaranteeing absolute security.

Application of science and technology to the prevention of forest fires
To improve on -site response capacity, the specialized forest protection team of Tram Chim National Park has developed a detailed forest fire prevention plan, prepared 9 large fire pumps, 150 manual sprayers, 20 mechanical sprayers, nearly 200 fire rakes and many other specialized equipment. The inspection and maintenance of these vehicles and equipment are carried out regularly to ensure their proper functioning when necessary. “We rigorously apply the spirit” 4 on site “(on -site command, on -site forces, on -site and logistics on site) in prevention and fight against forest fires. This allows us to proactively and quickly manage any fire situations, ”added Cao Thai Phong.
In addition to the efforts made in terms of human and material resources, Tram Chim National Park also focuses on the application of science and technology to prevention and control of forest fires. Safety cameras have been installed in key areas for direct monitoring, helping to detect and quickly report fires. The Tram Chim National Park is also developing a database on the state of forests, locates ponds and lakes that can be used for fire fighting, plans the dredging of channels and creates vegetation cards and specialized cards for prevention and control of forest fires using modern technological equipment.

Tram Chim National Park also mobilizes the participation of the community in forest fire prevention work. Fire prevention teams from municipalities and cities in the buffer area patrol and regularly protect forests, pump water proactively in the forest to increase humidity, correctly regulate water and clean the forest. The Department of Forest Protection and Popular Committees of Communes and Cities are coordinated to develop specific plans and solutions according to the motto “4 on site”, while strengthening propaganda and education to raise awareness among managers and the population about the importance of prevention and control of forest fires. The establishment of forest fire level forecasts in the district and regular verification of white lines are also important measures to proactively manage the risk of forest fire.
Thanks to proactive and synchronous solutions implemented, Tram Chim National Park has “one step ahead” in the “war” against “fire”, preserving the green color of the typical wetland of Dong Thap Muoi, the “common house” of hundreds of rare species of flora and fauna.
