Umaro Sissoco Packó explores Belarus, Russia and Japan

The president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Packó, will head on Belarus, as well as Osaka, in Japan, from 6 to 10 of this month, where he will attend the dedicated to the country at Expo 2025.

From the age of 6 to 10 of the month, the president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Packó, will perform an official tour in Belarus, Russia and Japan. He will participate on the day of in Moscow, then went to Osaka for Guinea-Bissau Day at Expo 2025, highlighting the Bijagó culture with the Kabaro mascot.

Sissoco Packó begins his official visit, between Tuesday and , in Minsk, capital of Belarus, and will participate on 9 in the festivities of the Victory Day in Moscow. On Saturday, Packó will be in Osaka, in Japan, to participate in the celebrations of the day of Guinea-Bissau at the Universal Exhibition under the slogan: “Design the society of the future for our lives”. The country’s commissioner for the exhibition, Carlota Sanca, said that the Mascot of Guinea-Bissau will be the Kabaro mask, used during the carnival by the Bijagó ethnic group, one of the peoples who still preserve the rites and customs of Guinean origin.

Attract investments and Japanese tourists

On April 14, Carlota Sanca presented the objectives and composition of the Guinean delegation which will be present at Expo 2025, which will take place until October, as well as the format of the country’s pavilion, which will present music, weaving and pottery and will also show video documentaries on the country. The objective of the participation of Guinea-Bissau in the Japan Expo will be to attract investments and Japanese tourists to visit the country, according to Sanca.

In October 2022, Umaro Sissoco Packo, president of Guinea-Bissau and ECOWAS in the ECOWAS at the time, made an official visit to Russia, followed by a trip to Ukraine. This diplomatic journey aimed to carry a message of peace in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, launched on February 24, 2022. In Moscow, Pacheo met President Vladimir Putin, to whom he underlined the urgency of reconnecting the dialogue with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in the interest of global stability.

Journey as a representative of ECOWAS

He said he did not go as a Bissau-Guinean head of state, but as a representative of ECOWAS, saying that he was the second leader to meet Putin after Macky Sall, president of and the African at that time. After Moscow, Packo went to kyiv to talk to Zelensky. This trip was held while Russian strikes multiplied in eastern Ukraine, especially against energy infrastructure.
