The mother of a woman killed by bullets in September 2022 begs a judge to keep a young man sentenced for double murder as long as possible, “for the security of society”.

His daughter Sophie Langelier, 42, as well as her companion Kadar Ahmed, 34, were killed by bullets on September 23, 2022.

It was Christopher Campagnolo, then aged 18, who had fired on the victims. A jury found him guilty of two unpremeditated murders last month. He is now likely to have to serve up to 20 years behind bars before being eligible for parole.
A painful trial
Because despite his young age, it is important to send a “clear message”, pleaded the prosecution on Monday during the representations on the sentence of the shooter and his accomplice, Tatiana Isabel Sanchez.

The latter was accused of Kadar Ahmed’s unpremeditated murder for riding him with her vehicle, fled with the shooter. She was finally found guilty of manslaughter, as well as complicity after the fact for having helped Campagnolo to save herself.
At the time of the drama, the victims had just crossed paths with Campagnolo and Sanchez when they left a restaurant.
An altercation had broken out between the two men. Campagnolo then took out a weapon before fire.

“I saw the images of the lifeless body of my child, I heard unbearable stories of his last moments, I heard about her last breath,” described Ms. Green, speaking of the trial “the most painful that a mother can cross”.
According to the crown prosecutor, Me Simon Lacoste, Sophie Langelier was probably “in the wrong place, at the wrong time”.
She was not involved in the altercation and was not even near Campagnolo. The latter nevertheless fired six times on her.
Suggestion «excessive»
“Perhaps she had become an annoying witness,” suggested Me Lacoste.

He listed the numerous criminal records of Campagnolo, most of violent crimes. He was notably convicted of pimping when he was a minor.
At the age of 16, he also committed an attempted murder by firing four times on an innocent victim in downtown Montreal in November 2019.
Me Hovsep Dadaghalian, who represents the murderer, believes that the crown suggestion is “excessive”. It is of the opinion that a duration of 12 to 14 years before being able to address the commission of parole would be more reasonable.
Tatiana Isabel Sanchez, 25, risks a sentence of seven years of detention.
Christopher Campagnolo carried the verdicts of guilt on appeal.
