A large-scale fire broke out this Sunday in a motorcycle factory located in Machhad, in northeast Iran. The information was confirmed by the Directorate of Public Relations of the Iranian Civil Defense and Fire Services.
The disaster occurred near the Electro Steel factory, according to the same source, which specifies that the fire, although in its early days at the time of the intervention, quickly extended.
The director general of the city’s fire services indicated that several teams have been dispatched to the scene, located on the road to the Prophet al-Azam. Thick plumes of smoke were visible several kilometers around.
According to the first observations, the fire completely destroyed a warehouse of tires and boxes with an area of 4,000 m². The firefighters quickly mobilized significant means to contain the flames.
Local media initially mentioned an explosion, raising fears of an act of sabotage, but no official information has confirmed this hypothesis at this stage. Amateur videos circulating on social networks show large columns of smoke rising from the site.
At the end of the afternoon, the authorities announced that the fire was brought under control thanks to the coordinated help efforts. No injuries or deaths were reported, according to the Hamshahri news site.
An investigation was opened to determine the origin of the disaster.
