The accused Steeve Gagnon is presumed responsible for having struck a dozen pedestrians with his van in Amqui, a small municipality of 6,300 souls in Bas-Saint-Laurent. These people were walking on the edge of Route 132. The suspect would have acted in an intentional way and would have chosen his victims at random. Three of them lost their lives: Gérald Charest, 65, Jean Lafrenière, 73, and Simon-Guillaume Bourget, 41 years old. The preliminary investigation of the driver ended prematurely on March 13. The Superior Court will decide on the continuation of procedures on June 3. Accusations of premeditated murder expose Steeve Gagnon to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole before 25 years.

The driver of a bus from the Laval transport company, Pierre Ny St-Amand, leaves a roundabout, accelerates in an alley and rushes into a daycare in the Sainte-Rose district, causing the death of two children, Jacob Gauthier and Maëva David. Six other children are injured. The man faces nine counts, including two of premeditated murder. According to experts who participated in his trial, the driver lived a psychotic episode. The common proof has therefore already agreed that it is not criminally responsible. However, the judge will have the last word on his fate.

A terrorist act aims at four Muslim people, killed in London, Ontario. Its author, Nathaniel Veltman, rushes on a family while waiting for a traffic light to cross the road, in the Hyde Park district. The victims are members of the same family, from Pakistan and arrived in Canada in 2007. The mother and the father, Madiha Salman and Salman AFZAL, are then aged 44 and 46, their daughter Yumnah AFZAL is 15 years old and the paternal grandmother Talat AFZAL, 74. For their murder, Nathaniel Veltman received an imprisonment for life on February 22, 2024, without the possibility of liberation before 25 years.

A 25 -year -old man, Alek Minassian, kills eight women and two men in the street Yonge, in Toronto. It rolls at around 60 km/h by almost a kilometer. During his interrogation by the police, the driver denied neither his guilt nor the premeditation of his crime. He had also rented his van three weeks in advance. “I have the feeling of having accomplished my mission,” he told investigators after the massacre. Minassian told the police that it belonged to the online community “Incel”, made up of sexually frustrated men. He received a perpetuity penalty without the right of parole before 25 years.
