The announcement has the effect of a bomb. Apple has decided to join the startup Anthropic in order to develop a new software platform for “Vibe-Coding”. Behind this anglicism is finally hidden a fairly simple concept: creating an AI chatbot which responds to an order in natural language and generates code on demand.
Apple accelerates on the AI
After Bloombergthis system will be a new version of Xcode, the programming software already developed by Apple. He would integrate the Claude d’Anthropic model, according to sources close to the file. The software will be deployed internally and a public launch has not yet been decided.
This initiative confirms in any case that the Apple brand is focusing on AI to try to boost the productivity of its teams. It is clearly not the only business to bet on this type of solution. We know for example that Optai is about to buy Windsurf for $ 3 billion. This company specializes in “vibe-coding”.
Let us also remember that Apple announced the arrival of Swift Assist last year. It is a house coding tool based on AI for Xcode. The latter was to be deployed in 2024, but the Cupertino firm finally revised its plans and it was never offered to the developers. And for good reason, complaints would have been internally brought up according to which the tool tended to hallucinate, specify our colleagues.
If the two companies refuse to comment, a rapprochement with Anthropic seems in any case promising for the tech giant which is behind in the field of AI. Indeed, its Claude language model is cited among the best programming tools. In addition to the possibility of writing code, it could make it possible to test user interfaces, a fairly tedious process when carried out manually. Likewise, this solution should facilitate the research and correction of bugs.
