Microsoft will remove this very practical functionality from its Authenticator application

Microsoft wants a lot. Microsoft Authenticator evolves for fewer passwords

Available for free on iOS and Android, Microsoft Authenticator allows, like many genus applications, to take care of user safety. This involves managing the double authentication and the storage of passwords, with the possibility of filling them automatically on sites and applications. But this last feature will soon be in ancient history.

On an assistance page, Microsoft indicates that this summer “Microsoft simplifies the automatic filling so that you can easily use the recorded passwords on the devices. As part of these updates, automatic filling in Microsoft Authenticator will be deleted from July 2025.“

This “simplification”, which mostly resembles a deletion, is in fact a slightly disguised migration: passwords and addresses remain recorded within the Microsoft account, and accessible via automatic filling of the Microsoft Edge browser. An abandonment in several stages

In detail, from June 2025 it will no longer be possible to record new passwords in Microsoft Authenticator. The application will continue to exist, but only to generate access keys for double authentication. Also remember that the new Microsoft accounts are now invited to be created without passwords, replaced by strong authentication.
