Nintendo has still not digested the case that occurred at the CES Salon in Las Vegas. Four months after the Accessorist Genki had exhibited on his stand a physical model of the Switch 2 based on confidential information, before the official presentation of the new console, the famous Japanese company replied by way of justice. The video game giant has filed a complaint in the United States against the accessorist and his parent company, Human Things. Nintendo accuses them of “brand violation, unfair competition and false advertising”.
During these 2025, Genki, who had organized private demonstrations for the press, claimed to have obtained an authentic model of the Switch 2 to prepare its accessories. But, a few days later, the accessorist had returned to his claims by indicating that the model was based on leaks and not on a real console.
In his complaint filed before a Californian court on May 2, Nintendo explains in particular that Genki used the Nintendo Switch 2 brand without authorization and that the manufacturer has promised compatible accessories from the day of the console, which is impracticable without prior access to the technical specifications of the device, according to lawyers for the Japanese firm. It also criticizes Genki for organizing an online event called Genki Direct, taking up the concept of the famous Nintendo Direct, to promote its accessories. This contributed to sowing confusion among consumers, explains Nintendo.
For his part, Genki published a statement on the X network, claiming to take the complaint “very seriously” and work with his lawyers to answer them in a thoughtful way. “Genki has always been an independent company, dedicated to the creation of innovative game accessories for the community we love,” recalls the company, saying proud of the quality and originality of its products. Without being able to say more for the moment, Genki also confirms his presence at the Pax East show, in Boston, this week. The company plans to present new accessories there, while ensuring that it is focused on the design of equipment and honor current orders.
The Nintendo complaint aims in particular to stop any unauthorized use of the brand as well as to obtain the destruction of the products and marketing supports concerned. Nintendo also requires damages.
