They had fought in order to be able to read the chords negotiated between Bern and the European Union. Now that it’s done, they sound the alarm. The vice-president of the UDC Magdalena Martillo-Blocher and its leader of the parliamentary group Thomas Aeschi had access on Wednesday to some 750 pages of the famous treaties to which they have long been opposed. And this reading did not reassure them: “It’s even worse than planned for Switzerland!”
The two representatives notably denounced “very important and radical interference”. And to specify: “The treaty is based on great distrust, the settlement of disputes being very detailed. It is by no means an equal relationship! ” Hold by confidentiality, however, they could not detail the content of these agreements on which the Swiss will have to vote. In principle, the treaty will be made public this summer, when the consultation is launched.
The position of the two UDC representatives contrasts with that of the national advisor and co -president of the PS Cédric Wermuth, who has also already been able to consult the agreements. Questioned by several German media, the latter explained that there was “nothing surprising” in these texts.
He even was quite satisfied with our colleagues from Blick.ch: “Switzerland has negotiated rather well, especially in sensitive fields such as wage protection, backup clause or rail traffic, where we have been able to preserve a large room for maneuver on the internal political level.” Note that apart from the UDC and the PS, no party has for the time being pronounced on the consultation of these agreements with the EU.
