The public prosecutor of the Confederation (MPC) acts against the ramifications of the Calabraise mafia ‘Ndrangheta in Switzerland. He brought an Italian national to the federal criminal tribunal residing in the canton of Argovie for participation and support for a criminal organization.

The 58-year-old man is in particular accused of having acted at least between 2001 and 2020 as a representative of the Anello-Fruci clan of the Ndrangheta in Swiss territory and of having favored the development of the interests of the organization in Switzerland, written the MPC on Wednesday in a press release.

The defendant would have had close relations with the leaders of the clan and would have started himself, as well as some of his relatives – at their entire disposal to perform “illegal and legal acts”.

According to the MPC, he has executed or had orders given by the superiors of the clan and provided his logistical support executed. The man would also have transferred the liquid from Switzerland to Italy as a result of exchange operations for amounts intended in part or in whole at the coffers of the criminal organization.

Mafia methods

The fifties would have used mafia methods: intimidation, accumulation of “black” liquidity or even management of activities related to catering and public establishments, in various cantons and through nominees.

In his accusation act, the MPC also suspected the accused of having punctually supported the section of the ‘Ndrangheta of Fino Mornasco, in Lombardy, coordinated with that of Giffone, in Calabria.

He would then have served as an intermediary for drug trafficking, would have been made available or would have served as an intermediary for the sale of weapons, would have participated in a meeting. He is also accused of having misled the Swiss administrative authorities to allow a member of the cell to settle in Swiss territory.
