Humanitarian events –The Red Cross illuminates Geneva to celebrate Henry Dunant
Geneva marks world day in honor of Dunant. Shows and entertainment are planned throughout the week.

Each year, May 8 celebrates the birth of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Movement of the Red cross And the Red Crescent, as well as millions of volunteers around the world who work to prevent human sufferings. In a moving and uncertain global context, where humanitarian wars and issues update the message of Henry Dunant and the spirit of the movement, this world day has more meaning in 2025.
World Day
For this celebration, go to the Bastions Park from Wednesday May 7 to Saturday May 10 to discover a rich and lively program, dance shows, concerts, entertainment for young and old in a village Red Cross specially created for the occasion.
Many municipalities and many hotels in the canton of Geneva rise on this occasion the flag of the Red Cross movement and the Red Crescent to their pediments. The water jet is dyed with red. The statues of the founding fathers are drapeting with artistic capes.
Humanitarian events
A 10-meter diameter mirror sphere settles in the Bastions Park, putting the Genevans and Genevans in the face of the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross which guide the humanitarian action of the movement, putting us all in the face of our responsibilities.
-This anamorphosis was created by the “space sculptor” François Abélanet. The Red Cross and Crescent-Rouge village welcomes young and old from Wednesday, May 9 to Friday May 9 (from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Saturday May 10 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). In this village, the various actors of the movement will present their activities. Come and discover how all the actors in the movement act to help the most vulnerable people, at local and international levels.
A treasure hunt will allow the general public to meet the founding fathers of the movement. Free shows are organized at the wall of reformers.

Wednesday May 7 at 3 p.m.: The Geneva Red Cross cultural integration center invites children over 3 years old to attend a tale. A professional storyteller will take words this young audience to follow in the footsteps of a curious creature. At 5.30 p.m.: A dance show created by Utopia School and dance troupe of Lausanne and Vevey will make it possible to put gestures on the very concept of universality, one of the seven principles of the movement. The choreographies were designed for the occasion by their directors and choreographers, Mr. Gilles Groux, a graduate dance teacher, and Mme Francesca Senzasono Groux, a graduate professor as a ballet master. About forty dancers, children and adults, will show, with their hearts and their bodies, the need to remain empathetic and linked to each other. At 6 p.m.: The play “A memory of Henry Dunant, a play for a single man”, on the life of the founder of the Red Cross movement, his sublime and tragic destiny, his eternal empathy and his always current message.
Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m.: The play written by the Geneva author Serge Bimpage mentioned above will be replayed. The founder of the Red Cross will be embodied by the actor Vincent Aubert. The text is set to music by Laure-Lyne Richard.
Thursday evening, Genevans and Geneva will be able to go to 6 p.m. to the Hinivuu café for a afterwork.
Friday, May 9 from 6 p.m. will take place a fanfare ball hosted by the famous fanfareduloup to make the public dance.
Saturday, May 10, guided tours will be organized throughout the day in order to immerse yourself, via the visit of emblematic places in the city center, in the birth of the largest humanitarian movement in the world and in the development of international humanitarian law. These visits are organized by the humanitarian path.
