A young is accused of having planned “a jihadist motivation trip” and of having supported Daesh, the Islamic State.

The public prosecutor of the Confederation (MPC) indicates on Monday in a having indictment this Swiss national, 21, from Basel.

The MPC suspects this young man of having supported the Islamic State in 2023 and of having wanted to join the “prohibited terrorist group” in April 2024. To join Daesh, “the defendant would have actively sought to come into contact with Islamic State recruiters and would have maintained close discussions with them for several months. The recruiters would have chosen Somalia as a destination and organized the trip of the accused ”. He was prevented from it and was arrested in July, by federal police (Fedpol) with the support of the cantonal police in Basel-Ville.

This man is also accused of having produced many “video files containing extreme representations of violence”. Videos he would have broadcast “through various channels”.

In the accusations against this young man, there is still possession of prohibited pornography as a Softair weapon and “a burglary with an accomplice in a store in Basel”, specifies the MPC.

This young man, alleged innocent, is today free, under surveillance. The rest of the procedure is in the hands of the federal criminal court in Bellinzone.
