After the elimination of Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the Sky Sports channel had suggested that Carlo Ancelotti could well leave his post before the end of the season, in the aftermath of the King Cup final against Barcelona, scheduled for April 26.
The information had been taken very seriously and relayed worldwide in a few minutes but yesterday, Ancelotti wanted to deny it. “I am under contract with Real Madrid and I am happy here,” he said. “I will not study any proposal.” Not even that of Brazil, therefore, which would make his eyes soft.
Designated as possible successors, Jürgen Klopp and Xabi Alonso have reacted in turn. Through the voice of his agent, the German said that he intended to continue his role as a consultant at Red Bull while the Spaniard replied that “this is not the time to talk about the future.”
Ancelotti fired?
History could therefore stop there except that … Marca now announces that indeed, Ancelotti intends to go to the end of his contract but that Real could replace him just before the World Cup. By whom? By … Xabi Alonso. This would allow the latter to prepare for next season while possibly winning a title in passing.
Note that the current Leverkusen coach did not say that he would not succeed Ancelotti. He just said it was not time to talk about it. For what? Because he is under contract with the German club until 2026 and he will therefore have to negotiate an early departure.
Leverkusen could accept but he requests 15 to 20 million euros as compensation. Which is obviously enormous. But according to Marca, even if Alonso could not free himself, Ancelotti would not be on the bench during the club World Cup.
