The Penguins will miss the series for a third season in a row, they who have not won a single series since 2018.
An eternity.
This Thursday evening, the Penguins will play their last match of the season against the capital and the questions will be numerous on the future of Sidney Crosby. No one expects the Penguins captain to say, in the coming days, that he would like to continue his career elsewhere, but the fact remains that it is difficult to imagine him to end his career with an organization that is not going.
His decision
One thing is certain, it should not be expected that it is Kyle Dubas who asks Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin or Kristopher Letang to accept a transaction. As long as these three players will wish to remain in Pittsburgh, their wishes will be answered.
The reflection must rather come from themselves. None of these three players gave the impression in the last years that they wanted to leave Pittsburgh, but do they really want to continue to have very little chance of making the series, season after season?
Control your destiny
There are two years of contract for Sidney Crosby with the Penguins.
If he decides to leave, we should not expect Kyle Dubas to send a memo to the other training courses in the league.
Rather, it is Sidney Crosby himself who will decide where he would like to play. The team of his childhood has always been the Canadians and the current successes of the organization cannot harm, quite the contrary.
There is also no other training that may interest him who counts so many young talented players and who is in full ascent. A team that is very similar to that of the Penguins when they went to the Stanley Cup final in 2008 and 2009. In short, the Canadians knock on the door and they will need a veteran like Sidney Crosby to possibly touch the precious trophy.
The avalanche was also mentioned on a few occasions as a future destination for Crosby because of its proximity to Nathan Mackinnon. It is obvious that other teams will have great interest in him, including the Kings and the stars who are among the favorite teams to win the Stanley Cup year after year.
A man of tradition
There is also the other side of the medal. Sidney Crosby has always had Mario Lemieux in admiration, who was his teammate when he arrived in the NHL 20 years ago. Lemieux, despite the failures of her team, never wanted to be exchanged and even became the owner of the Penguins.
Is it possible that Sidney Crosby decides to take the same road and that he ends his career from Pittsburgh? He is the only one to have the answer, of course. But if he decides to leave the city of steel to try to win a Stanley Cup elsewhere, he will always be recognized, first and foremost, like a Penguins player.
