Kaolack, Apr 15 (APS) – The Governor of the Kaolack Region (Center), Mouhamadou Moctar Watt, chaired on Tuesday a workshop of presentation of the results of the first phase of the project ” seuf ” and the declination of the objectives of the second financed by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for support for improvement of land management and strengthening The resilience of the rural areas of Senegal, noted the APS.
This meeting, which is a meeting of the project for the steering committee of the “Seuf” project “aims to allow better visibility of the achievements of said project by the various actors concerned, made it possible to reveal that its first phase touched” more than 30,000 people ” at the level of 17 municipalities in the regions of Kaffrine and Kaolack.
” In the first phase of the project, 971 people carried out land security activities, 54 groups of women (3000 members) supported for access to the land and its enhancement. During this period (2020-2024), 70% of the conflicts linked to the land were successfully resolved ”, said El Hadji Malick Dia, technical advisor in the project ” seuf ”.
This project, the second phase of which will cost ” more than 8.550 billion CFA francs ”, which, during the first phase, helped the realization of 17 occupation and land development plans, was able to allow the map of 420 thousand hectares of land, to improve land security for the benefit of 338,826 people and to delimit 17 municipalities, continued Mr. Dia.
Adding that “6000 women” were trained in land rights and land allocation procedures, the technical advisor of the “SEUF” project also enabled the establishment of 262 alternative management of conflicts related to land.
” The participation of women in the land management committees increased to 24%”, was delighted El Hadji Malick Dia, according to which two regional platforms for land governance and natural resources management and five departmental platforms for the same mission were installed at the level of the regions of Kaffrine and Kaolack.
According to Anna Faye of the management team of the project ” seuf ”, raising the pressure of activity on land in these two regions of the Center of Senegal area, said that the second phase (2024-2027) will be an opportunity to go towards the extension of beneficiaries for the benefit of ten new municipalities, five in Kaolack and as much in Kaffrine.
If the president of the regional platform for land governance and Kaolack natural resources management, Sidy Bâ, notes the decline in the rate of prevalence of land -related conflicts in his administrative constituency, the head of the regional executive estimates “necessary” to “consolidate” the achievements of the first phase of the project “Seuf”.
” It will be, for the second phase of consolidating the achievements of the first phase and, above all, of emphasizing the resilience of communities in the face of the harmful effects of climate change ”, he argued, in the presence of the mayors of the municipalities concerned, the administrative authorities of the departments of Nioro du RIP, Guinguinéo and Kaolack as well as different stakeholders.
Speaking on behalf of his peers, Balla Sall, mayor of the commune of Ndiago, one of the municipalities of the Department of Guinguinéo benefiting from this project, argued that this project allowed them to have a “best expertise” in terms of management and land development in their respective municipalities, avoiding them “territorial inconsistencies”.
“In our communes, we are increasingly witnessing land degradation, with agriculture and aging, activities that require a lot of land resources ”, he deplored, advocating agricultural and pastoral activities ” more resilient and more resilient ” thanks to the support of the second phase of said project
