It is with deep sadness that the minister of Sports, Khady Diene Gaye, reacted to the announcement of the death of Mr. Joseph Mathiam, former Minister of Sports of Senegal and emblematic figure of public engagement in the service of Senegalese youth and sport.
“Senegal loses with him a great servant of the nation,” said the minister, welcoming the memory of a man whose contributions have marked several generations.
Appointed at the beginning of 70 by Leopold Sédar Senghor, Joseph Mathiam marked Senegalese sport. Initiator of the Estates General of Sports held at the Blaise Diagne stadium, promoter of the national weeks of youth and culture, and craftsman of the revival of the National Youth Council, Joseph Mathiam leaves behind a strong and structuring heritage. His career in the service of the Republic will have helped to last a long -term youth at the heart of public policies.
The Minister of Sports reacted to this loss on her Facebook page. “I pay tribute to her remarkable career and his constant commitment to Senegal’s leadership on the international scene,” added Minister KDG, before sending her emotional condolences to the family of the deceased, to her relatives as well as to the whole nation.
She concluded by formulating prayers for the rest of his soul: “May the Lord, in his mercy, grants him eternal rest and consoles his loved ones in this ordeal. »»
