As part of an approach to strengthen horticultural cooperation, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Breeding, Mabouba Diagne, recently received a Dutch economic delegation in Diamniadio. This delegation, led by Carmen Hagenars, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Senegal, underlined the need to consolidate the strategic partnership between the two nations.
According to an official press release relayed by Sud Quotidien, the discussions focused on various axes of cooperation, in particular the creation of storage infrastructure for horticultural products, the reduction of post-harvest losses and better accessibility to agricultural equipment. The Ministry of Agriculture said that the two parties also looked at the development of high-performance irrigation systems, promoting local organ-mineral fertilizers, and productivity optimization to meet domestic demand while exploiting export opportunities.
This initiative is part of the strategic vision of the government aimed at building modern, resilient and competitive agriculture. Mabouba Diagne called on Senegalese entrepreneurs and investors so that they are investing more in the development of storage hangars, thus supporting the policy of food sovereignty and the consolidation of agricultural value chains.
During their visit to Senegal, the Dutch delegation was able to interact with fourteen entrepreneurs from the sector, illustrating the growing interest in this promising sector. They also visited the storage shed of Senegal Agro Shipping, with a capacity of 3,000 tonnes, as well as an industrial unit for manufacturing frozen fries. These activities mark a new stage in economic cooperation between Senegal and the Netherlands.
