Beaten from 11 points in Limoux to the first leg (29-18), the players of ES Baronnies won (13 to 3) in Sarlabous but it is too fair to pass the 32nd finals.
For two small points, on all two games, the Baronnies see their beautiful season end, unlike Arpal (upstream rugby Pyrénées Audoises Limoux), which spins in the round of 16 of the French championship. The meeting was played in front of a beautiful crowd, in pouring rain and a constant thunderstorm.
From the start, the locals take the game on their own, imposing a big physical pressing. Very quickly, their scorer N. Abadie opened the scoring on a penalty conceded by the Audois for a ball kept on the ground: 3-0, after only two minutes of play.
There are then eight points to go back to the Greens of the Baronnies. With the redoubling rain, offensive flights become impossible. It is therefore necessary to rely on the game at the foot and candles to hope to cause faults at the reception, on both sides.
The pressure is gradually rising to a brilliant general in the 17th minute. The referee calms the spirits by expelling a player from each camp. If the storm still rumbles, the game becomes a little more posed. The ball circulates from one camp to another, and on a well-constructed action following a criminal touch, the local alignment captures the ball, forms a penetrating group, then Pujo is served small on the side to register a corner test, transformed by Abadie: 10-0 at the break.
A penalty that changes everything
Upon recovery, Arpal XV is trying to move the game, but the solid defense of baronies and weather conditions make any progression difficult. On a phase well built after four playing times, Abadie adds three new points to the 50th, bringing the scoring to 13-0 (31-29 cumulated on the two games).
There is still time, the benches come into play, and on the Audois side, we understand that everything can still rock.
The forwards regain control of the ball in well -controlled standing phases. In the 57th minute, following a touch and a local fault, Géri who takes over from Murcia after two failures (53rd, 54th) succeeds in the penalty that turns the scoring in favor of the Audois on all two games: 32-31, even if the Baronnies still lead 13-3 in this meeting.
The end of the match is dominated by the Baronnies, especially in a closed melee where the Audois are several times sanctioned. Unfortunately for the Greens, three attempts at the foot are missing the target.
A bitter taste for barons, who go out with regrets. Conversely, the Audois can savor their qualification: the adventure continues but the High-Pyrenean stage has finally proved to be most complicated.
