These tensions, we are told, worry until the PTB Molenbeekois majority partners of the PTB.
A supervision of the PS Molenbeekois?
The Brussels Federation of the PS, aware of the situation, has decided to set up a mediation cell. It consists of the Brussels MP Karine Lalieux and the Federal MP Khalil Aouasti.
Their mission is to meet the different actors of the Brussels PS, in order to appease the many tensions that cross the Molenbeek Section. Several members have already been heard. Catherine Moureaux, we are told, will only be summoned after her convalescence.
Mediators will then be able to hand over their conclusions.
Within the Brussels PS, some evoke the possibility of a guardianship of the section of PS Molenbeekois by the Brussels Federation.
Mohammed Kalandar ignores the PS decision
The trigger for the establishment of this cell lies in the non-application of a decision of the National Vigilance Commission of the PS. The Commission had indeed decided in March to cancel the appointment of Mohammed Kalandar as a sports failure, after an internal designation procedure tainted with irregularities.
This decision should have applied immediately. Khalil Boufraquech, PS municipal councilor and former group leader, would have recovered the post of alderman. Several weeks have passed, however, and Mohammed Kalendar is still in place.
The alderman of the sports, whose worried positions have reappeared recently, did not wish to follow the party’s decision. The new municipal law, in fact, does not force him to make his mandate, which was entrusted to him by a vote of the municipal council.
Within the PS Molenbeekois, the discomfort is palpable … “There was a decision of the vigilance commission, and facilitators were appointed to enforce the party’s decision“, is limited to commenting Amet Gjanaj, ff bourgmestre de Molenbeek.

There seems to be an excessive pressure, within the municipal college of Molenbeek, to resign Mohamed Kalandar. Catherine Moureaux could perhaps have the political weight to force it … But the bourgmestre, as we said, is absent due to illness.
By separating from Mohammed Kalandar, the daughter of Philippe Moureaux would also lose political support which would be replaced by a new rival (Khalid Boufraquesh).
The maneuver also includes risks. Mohamed Kalandar could decide to leave the PS and sit as an independent alderman. The PS would be disoriented, while the PTB would have as many seats as the socialists in the municipal council …
This file, basically, once again illustrates the intensity of the intestine war which takes place within the PS of Molenbeek, since the poorly digested succession of Philippe Moureaux, and his replacement by his daughter.
However, the bet had seemed successful, at first. Catherine Moureaux had won the 2018 municipal election in a triumphant manner.
But the situation had quickly deteriorated, up to the 2024 municipal elections where the socialists had only kept the first place of a fifrelin.
Heavy goods vehicles fall like flies
The past legislature was, it is true, rare violence. The heavyweights of PS Molenbeekois fell like flies.
The rival of Catherine Moureaux, Jamal Ikazban, was removed from his functions as PS group leader.
Former alderman Abdellah Acououi, with whom the bourgmestre had a strong altercation, has left politics.
Jamel Azaoum, dismissed from the Alderman of Sports, slammed the door of the PS Molenbeekois.
Yassine Akki, announced at the municipal college, saw her designation canceled after the discovery of a rape conviction.
As for the former group leader of the PS Molenbeekois Khalil Boufraquech, he was doubled as an alderman by Mohammed Kalandar.
“Catherine Moureaux managed the town in an increasingly authoritarian way, as the legislature progresses. She made the void around her and ended up being released by the first line of her lieutenants of PS Molenbeekois”sums up an informed source.
These successive departures, far from strengthening the bourgmestre, paradoxically had the effect of isolating it even more.
The situation of Catherine Moureaux, who maintains difficult relations with Ahmed Laaouej, is hardly better in the Brussels PS where she is marginalized.
Catherine Moureaux, obviously, will have a lot to do to regain control over the socialist section and continue the legislature, once she has recovered health.
