The World Water Festival Maha Songkran 2025 officially opened at the Royal Park of Sanam Luang, inviting Thai and international visitors to join the new Year celebrations in a series of events lasting five days, until April 15, in the park area and on the neighboring road to Ratchadamnoen Klang.
According to a VNA correspondent in Bangkok, this year’s Maha Songkran festival is imbued with Thai culture with unique sound and luminous performances, cultural parades of five regions, animated water splash zones and free concerts of leading Thai artists.
The highlight of the festival is made up of 8 major parades on the theme “Thainess Iconic”, bringing together more than 500 artists to present the cultural identity of Thailand as well as the Soft Power of Culture.
In addition, the event will include parades featuring Thai cuisine, elephants, fighter fish, tuk-tuks and regional dances, as well as traditional art shows such as folk theater, Hoo-Loo musical and Hun Lakorn puppets.
Next to it is the “Thai Charm” space with 5 activities that visitors are encouraged to discover, in particular kitchen demonstrations and Thai dishes tastings; Muay Thai show; Practice Thai massage; Buy emblematic Thai products; And take souvenir photos in Thai costumes with cultural monuments of the country of gold pagodas.
In addition, the festival also offers fairly games such as the exploration of the haunted house, an outdoor cinema, a big wheel, a range of aquatic play with musical fountain and more than 100 stands of food and products from all over the country.

This year’s Songkran festival is expected to generate 26.5 billion baht (around $ 726 million) in income for the Thai economy, according to government government spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachan.
Of this total, 7.32 billion baht should come from foreign tourists and 19.24 billion baht from national tourists, a respective increase of 7 % and 9 % compared to last year, with more than 4.4 million national trips.
Citing the data from Traveloka, the main Southeast Asian travel platform, Sasikarn said Bangkok continues to be the most popular destination in the region during the Songkran festival. Secondary cities also experience rapid growth in tourism, in accordance with the policy of the Thai government.
More specifically, travel research for destinations such as Chumphon increased by 95 %, Nakhon Phanom by 68 %, Sakon Nakhon by 53 %, Loei by 46 %and Nan by 40 %.
This shows that more and more people are interested in the authentic local experiences of Songkran which reflect the unique nature, culture and traditions of Thailand.
