“At 3:30 p.m. the traffic jam started in front of Bellinzona,” writes a reader. “Now I’m soon in Airolo”. The news came at 9 p.m. So the reader was stuck in traffic over five hours. From Bellinzona to Airolo it should usually go for almost an hour if there is no traffic jam.
“Many people got out of the car,” she continues. Videos can be seen how people sometimes got out of the vehicles in the rain in order to represent their legs.
The reader was on the way home from the holidays in Italy, like many others of her fellow sufferers. She did not start the journey home from Italy for the first time, but «I have never experienced anything like that. Never in 25 years. Incredible, »she says.
Another reader writes at 10 a.m. that she still has 6 km of traffic jams to the tunnel. «Totally annoying! No toilet, no resting place, no info. Disaster!” She has never experienced something like that on this route, she says. She adds: “I hope we will arrive in good time so that we can go to work tomorrow morning.”
According to the TCS Verkehrsinfo portal, there is up to 13 kilometers of traffic jams in front of the south entrance of the Gotthard tunnel between Biasca and the Airolo dosing position. This should lead to two hours and ten minutes loss, according to the TCS. The 20-minute readers were on the street a little longer. So it may be that the traffic jam against the evening slowly began to dissolve. However, on the webcam of the south entrance you can still see how the vehicles only progress gradually.
