In Basel, the hotels clearly smelled the vein. During Eurovision Week (from 12 to 18 May), housing prices explode in the host city of the competition. This is revealed by a study by Wettfreunde.net, based on more than 1000 ads published on Booking.com and Airbnb. Result: a room becomes almost a luxury.

A six -night stay for two people costs an average of 5,620 francs on Booking.com. It is 139% more expensive than the previous week (2356 francs) and 137% more than the following week (2378 francs). Airbnb is also flying off, but remains more reasonable with 1689 francs per week (against 735 francs before and 640 after). As a reminder, tickets for the final cost up to 350 francs.

By combining the two platforms, the average price increases to 2461 francs for six nights, 166% more expensive than before the start of the festivities. In summary: it is not too late to call a friend on site or to use the many trains add for the occasion.

The record? A studio located 8 km from the Halle Saint-Jacques offered on Booking for the modest sum of 21,300 francs per week. Airbnb is even stronger: a loft 2.5 km from the performance hall is 65,000 francs. Conversely, the smallest budgets will be able to sleep 30 km from the center for (only) 244 francs via Airbnb or choose a capsule hotel at 1178 francs on Booking.
