The ANFR has just published its mobile deployment observatory on May 1, 2025, making it possible to draw up an inventory of 4G and 5G networks in mainland France. If all operators continue to invest, the differences remain notable depending on the technologies. Here are the rankings according to the antennas activated.
On the 5G side, Free Mobile remains largely in mind thanks to its massive use of the 700 MHz band, with more than 33,000 authorized sites, including 28,650 already operational. In all, 50,924 5G sites are authorized in France (+0.7 % over a month), and 84.7 % of them are already technically in service.
5G deployment all frequencies combined:
-
Free Mobile – 21,253 sites ( + 158 during the month of March, taking into account a downward readjustment of the number of antenna 700mHz).
-
Bouygues Telecom – 16,078 sites (+ 162 in March
-
SFR – 14,560 sites (+ 133 in March)
- Orange – 13,213 sites (+ 336 in March)
In the queen strip of flows, 3.5 GHz, 34,837 sites are authorized, including nearly 29,000 activated, divided between Free, Bouygues, Orange and SFR:
-
Orange – 12,280 sites ( + 231 in March)
-
SFR – 9,732 sites ( + 72 in March)
-
Bouygues Telecom – 9,239 sites ( + 142 in March)
- Free Mobile – 9,091 sites ( + 231 in March)
This band is crucial for performance. Orange digs here also the gap with more than 12,000 active antennas.
4G: Orange in mind, free in high progression
On the front of the 4G, Orange remains n ° 1 with 31,785 active sitesin front of Bouygues Telecom (29 585), Free Mobile (29 042) and SFR (28 968). Free records the strongest growth this month with +176 new 4G sitesagainst +95 for Bouygues, +110 for SFR and +57 for Orange.
