The acting president, Lee Ju-Ho, delivered a speech on Monday, May 5, 2025 at the Jogye temple, in the center of Seoul, during the ceremony marking the 2569th anniversary of the birth of Buddha, Monday May 5, 2025.

Seoul, May 05 (Yonhap)-The acting president Lee Ju-Ho on Monday to continue the unity and the coexistence during the ceremony marking the anniversary of Buddha, stressing the need to rebuild a broken community.

Lee made these remarks in a discourse of on the occasion of the 2569th anniversary of the birth of Buddha, a national holiday in South Korea, and said that the country more than ever needed Buddha teachings on mercy and coexistence.

“We need to rebuild a broken community with the power of firm solidarity by taking care of each other and sharing our suffering,” Lee said during the Jogye temple ceremony, in the center of Seoul.

He added that the government would focus on improving people’s life and the reduction of social inequalities and polarization for sustainable growth.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Education became the acting president week, after the Minister of Economy and Finance, Choi Sang-Mok, resigned Thursday while the National Assembly sought to dismiss him. Former Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo also left his post last week to announce his presidential candidacy.

The successive resignations of the country’s interim leaders last week intensified political uncertainties just a few weeks before the presidential election which will take place on June 3 following the dismissal of former president Yoon Suk Yeol.
