A residence and a garage were completely shaved by the flames Tuesday afternoon in Léry.
The fire started in the garage of the residence located on a private path behind the Dairy Queen cream, according to Éric Steingue, director of the Mercier fire service, who manages the Léry barracks.
“Upon arrival, the emblaissment was generalized and we could see a column of black smoke in the distance,” he said. The blaze had also spread to two imposing fir trees located nearby. “We had fears that it spread to the neighboring residence,” said Steingue. Finally the damage was limited to the original building.
The fire service also did a research in the residence for fear that a person is inside, but ultimately the Châteauguay police service confirmed that everyone had come out.
Forty firefighters worked on this fire which is now considered to be under control. The barracks of Mercier, Châteauguay, Beauharnois, Sainte-Martine and Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois came to reinforce the firefighters of Léry.
Three firefighters suffered a heat stroke, informs the director of the firefighters. They were taken care of by paramedics.
The current was cut in the sector.
The cause of the fire is not yet determined. The investigation may be transferred to the police service according to Steingue.
