Eggs, rabbits and chocolate casseroles in 2025 cost 5 to 10% more expensive than the previous year in bakeries, and up to 23% on distributor brands, according to a study by the UFC-Que Choisir. Will the French deprive themselves?
On the shelves at a week of Easter, it is the hunt for promotions. With six small children to spoil, a retired couple came to fill up on chocolates. “”We are going to limit, a chocolate per small child, but we will no longer buy for adults, the least big“, confides the woman. Chocolates cost more and more expensive: + 14% on average over one year.
The main reason? Flight of the cocoa price in the past two years. In a chocolate factory in Chelles (Seine-et-Marne), the beans are carefully selected. They come from Madagascar to compensate for the very bad harvests in West Africa, which exploded the prices. “”They bought them around 8 euros per kilo a year ago, and there, the last beans I bought, 16 euros per kilo“explains Cédric Taravella, the president of the chocolate factory, who says he has”had to partially pass part of the increases “.
Despite everything, he decided to maintain his production of 70 tonnes. In stores, customers are spoiled for choice, and many not wanting to skip tradition.
