“Most of the season…” – Malo Gusto falls into the same trap as Maresca

-

We’re now into the buildup for ’s Conference quarter final second leg against Legia , but the focus this week has mainly been on the bigger picture.

That should be no surprise. Despite a hostile atmosphere, we swatted the Poles aside 3-0 in the leg, and everyone expects us to finish the job tonight.

That means there’s even more focus on what happened in between the two legs – a disappointing 2-2 draw with Ipswich to follow a disappointing 0-0 draw with Brentford. Those two results have dealt a crushing blow to our hope of finishing in the top 5, although manager Enzo Maresca has continued to try and spin positive by pointing out that his team have been in the top 4 all season – as though that would make dropping out more excusable and not less.

In the buildup to tonight’s game, Malo Gusto spoke to the club’s official website and revealed his thoughts on his manager’s style of and recent results:

-

“To win you have to believe in your plan, otherwise you cannot win,” the full back explained.

“Most of the season we were top four or top five, so I think it’s because the plan was good. But it’s not enough because the season’s not finished. We have a few games in the future so we just have to continue like this, to give our on the pitch and try to finish with our target.”

We would say the same thing to Gusto we’d say to Maresca: it doesn’t matter where we’ve been, it matter where we end up.

There’s a reason our final 6 games to end the season are so hard – because we’ve played all our easier games. That’s why it’s pointless to look at where we’ve been all season, and only makes sense to our once all 38 have been played.
