Accustomed to working with the biggest lyricists, Garou reveals his own texts and compositions in a highly anticipated surprise album: A better next day.
Known for his singer’s talents, Garou reveals with this album a new artistic facet, with a series of titles written and composed by him. A nice surprise for the public, who had not heard it on original songs for twelve years, but also for the singer himself.
Asked about this, he tells that this album has imposed itself on the unexpectedly, when he was taken in a completely different project. “All year long, I was preparing the tour. I never worked so much on a project, but there was no planned album release “he reports like this.
A spontaneous feather
Finally, it was in contact with students of the Star Academy Québécoise, of which he is the director, that he started working on his own texts, to push them to do the same. A great first for Garou, who until then had “Neither time nor need”. “I was always spoiled by life, with great songs of large collaborators”he recalls on this subject.
And in fact: between Gérald de Palmas, Jean-Jacques Goldman and Francis Cabrel, the singer had the opportunity to shine on the texts of several big names in French song. The time for him to sharpen his pen, to finally deliver what he calls, after 27 years of career, “son premier album”.
The result of a natural and impulsive writing, he explains, without real planning: “I wonder how there are artists who sit down and start to think about their album. I was super spontaneous. I start writing when I have an idea, and I have fun.”
A first collaboration with her daughter, Emelie
That said, all the album songs are not by his hand. Among his ten new titles, Garou takes up in particular in music Tomorrow from dawnthe famous poem by Victor Hugo, and gives his own version of The letter to Elise of Beethoven to make it For her. “A great pathetic love song at will”he jokes, composed by modifying some agreements of the original song.
As for the words of Lonely Watersthey are borrowed from his daughter, Emelie Wrese Garand. “I find her mega gifted. I even offered him that we write together […] And we succeeded. We made a song that is in English, so I didn’t put it on the album, but we started working on new songs. Maybe there will be a sequel … “he announces.
