Thomas Dutronc, son of the legendary couple Françoise Hardy and Jacques Dutronc, has imposed their musical style over the years and retain their audience. Guitarist, singer, and occasionally an actor, he claims his taste for gypsy jazz and managed to immerse us in his unique universe. You released your sixth album, it is never too late, at the end of 2024. So, tell us, it is never too late, for what?
To listen to my record… and to come and see us in concert (laughs). I have no pretension to send messages for anyone. I just wanted people to have a good time listening to the album. I wanted to give joy, happiness, good humor. A little love in a world that becomes more and more violent. For me, who is of another generation, I pity young people who discover the world today.
Do you not like this current world? Are you nostalgic for another time?
Yes, 70s, 80s, which were much nicer. And I think that at other times, from the 1930s to 60s, it may be even better. I mainly speak of music and cinema. We are lucky at the moment, we have a lot of series … But we do a lot of resucedes. We are in a time when we no longer have intellectuals, we stopped thinking, we see it on TV. We no longer have great debates, great literary programs that everyone was watching.
This is an album that you wrote in part during the COVVID…
Yes, when we worked on the song Little pleasureswe thought of all these simple things that seem obvious to us … Sometimes we forget that, especially in France, we tend to complain. This is our DNA. But it feels good to remember the advantages and the luck we have. And do not forget that there are people who live war and horrors.
