A secondary character from the DCEU will be back in Superman by James Gunn, as explained by the new actor who will play him.
Even if the new DCU was officially launched with the animation series Creature Commandosthe universe will fully take off with Supermanthe first film in this new DC chapter, directed by James Gunn (also Co-PDG of DC Studios). Actor Henry Cavill therefore passed the relay and the red cape to David Corenswet, while the other members of justice League – the Wonder Woman of Gal Gadot, the Bateman of Ben Affleck, the Flash of Ezra Miller, the Aquaman of Jason Momoa and the Cyborg of Ray Fisher (Lol) – were all dismissed.
However, some rare characters will survive this violent transfer window, like Peacemaker played by John Cena (and other secondary characters from The Suicide Squad), Blue Beetle (which will return to an animation series), and, even more surprising, Maxwell Lord.
This character has so far appeared at the cinema once, as an antagonist in Wonder Woman 1984 under the features of Pedro Pascal. For his passage from the DCEU to the DCU, he will borrow those of Sean Gunn, the brother and long -standing collaborator of James Gunn that we have also seen in The guards of the galaxy et The Suicide Squad. The actor, accustomed to the roles of comic storage, gave some explanations on the return of the businessman, who will have nothing to do with that of 2020.
MAXWELL DONE
On the occasion of the recent Northern Fancon which was held in early May, a fan interviewed Sean Gunn on the return of the businessman Maxwell Lord:
“I can’t believe that Pedro Pascal and I have the same roles!” I cannot answer most of the questions. I recently asked my brother [James Gunn] If I could say that I played in the film and he replied: “You can say that you play a little in the film”. So I am sort of in the new Superman.
I really enjoyed the way to explore the character – my brother and I, we discussed source material, but I can’t talk about it. I can say that the world in which Pedro Pascal has magnificently interpreted the character is very, very different from the world in which we are evolving now. I think it is enough to look at the cast for it to be obvious! I am kidding, we generally don’t think of me for the same type of role [que Pedro Pascal]. He is incredible. »»
So we imagine that the character will play A rather minor role in the plotwhich seems rather logical since the scenario must juggle between many characters, starting with the villain Lex Luthor played by Nicholas Hoult. He will be joined in the credits by Isabela Merced (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner/Green Lantern), Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), Anthony Carrigan (Rex Mason/Metamorpho) or Edi Gathegi (Michael Holt/Mister Terrific).
In addition to the characters who revolve around Clark Kent, a major DC character was also recassed: Kora Zor-El alias Supergirl, soon played by Milly Alcock after being interpreted by Sacha Calle in The Flash. She will then be playing with her own film, Supergirl : Woman of Tomorrowscheduled for June 2024.
Before that, Superman will be released in France on July 9.
