The project is part of the Solidarity agriculture program centered on farming. Its objective is the reconstruction of the livestock and the development of the breeding of sheep and goats for the benefit of small breeders in vulnerable areas having undergone significant losses of livestock in recent years.
The size of the herds is very variable, going from 2 heads to more than 1,000 heads per breeder. The average size is estimated at 50 heads per breeder. These are sedentary breeders who also practice cereal farming andarboriculture. The breeding mode varies from semi-intensive operating collective courses and stubble in intensive mode for some specialized operations in fattening.
According to data from CRI From the region for the year 2022, breeding ranks among the main activities and actively contributes to the income of households in the region. THE animal heritage Operated at the level of the whole region consists of around 123,400 cattle heads, 3.2 million ovine heads and 960,000 caprine heads. Sheep farming constitutes the dominant fringe of the livestock. The region participates by 9% of the production of red meats at the national level.
