(Ecofin agency) – With more than 600 dematerialized services in January 2024, Morocco is one of the best students in Africa in the digitization of public services. Two national institutions associate themselves to facilitate their access to citizens.
The Moroccan Digital Ministry has teamed up with the National Police (DGSN) to simplify and secure access to online public services. Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, and the CEO of national security and surveillance of the territory Abdellatif Hammouchi, ratified the framework agreement on Friday May 2 in Rabat.
In detail, Moroccan citizens will be able to access online administrative services more easily thanks to their national electronic identity card (CNIE). This incorporates an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip allowing secure digital authentication via the national trusted third party platform deployed by the DGSN. Moroccans can thus prove their online identity without password, while protecting their personal data.
For several months, the DGSN has multiplied agreements with various national institutions to generalize the use of the CNIE in administrative procedures. These various initiatives respond to the desire to accelerate the digital transformation of public services in the Cherifian kingdom.
They are part of the national “Digital Maroc 2030” national strategy through which the Kingdom aims to become a digital leader in Africa and to appear by 2030 among the first 50 countries in the world to the online services index, a major component of the United Nations Development Development Index. According to the report “e-lock survey 2024: Accelerating Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development”, Morocco occupied in 2024 the 4e Place du continent, with a score of 0.6841 on 1. The best student in this segment is South Africa which displays a score of 0.8616.
This partnership should pave the way for a generalization of digital identity in the daily life of Moroccans. The success of this integration will however depend on the level of membership of citizens, data security and the availability of digital infrastructure.
Recall that Morocco is one of the models to follow in terms of cybersecurity according to the 2024 edition of the “Global Cybersecurity Index” report from the International Telecommunications Union (IUT), which classified it in the Tier 1 category with a score of 97.5 out of 100.
